Command Sergeant Major Richard D. Knott

Command Sergeant Major Richard D. Knott assumed his position as NETCOM Command Sergeant Major, 1 June 2020.

CSM Knott is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana.He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1990 as a 31M (Multichannel Communications Systems Operator). He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA.

CSM Knott has held every leadership position from Team Chief to Nominative Command Sergeant Major. His previous assignments include 121st Signal BN, Fort Riley, Kansas; 122nd Signal BN, Camp Casey, Korea; 10th Signal BN, Fort Drum, New York; 385th Signal Company, Camp Doha, Kuwait; Indianapolis Recruiting BN, Indianapolis, Indiana; two tours with 123rd Signal BN, Fort Stewart, Georgia; First Sergeant, 1/13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; First Sergeant, 304thSignal BN, Camp Stanley, Korea; First Sergeant, HHBN, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Operations Sergeant Major, 1stSignal Brigade, Yongsan, Korea; S3 Sergeant Major, 42d Fires Brigade, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Command Sergeant Major, 63d Expeditionary Signal BN, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Command Sergeant Major, 516th Signal Brigade, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. CSM Knott’s last assignment was as the Command Sergeant Major, United States Army Signal School, Fort Gordon, Georgia.

CSM Knott’s education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System to include the Nominative Leader Course, USASMA Class 62, First Sergeant Course, Army Instructors Course, Army Recruiter Course, Drill Sergeant Course, and the Army Force Management Course. He holds a Masters in Human Resource Management and a Bachelors in Business Administration.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (1OLC), Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1SLC), Army Commendation Medal (5OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1SLC, 3OLC), the Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal (9th award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Bronze Star, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development (6), Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (4),Drill Sergeant Badge, Gold Recruiter Badge (3 Sapphires), Gold Recruiter’s Ring. He has also been awarded the Signal Corps Silver Order of Mercury.

CSM Knott is married and has two adult children.
