Command Sergeant Major Darris Curry
Command Sergeant Major Darris Curry hails from Columbia, South Carolina, where he graduated from Eau Claire High School in May 1984. He joined the Army in June 1984, and completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he was trained as an Automatic Data Telecommunications Center Operator (Military Occupational Specialty 72G).
Command Sergeant Major Curry assumed duties as the NETCOM Command Sergeant Major on 12 July 2016. His previous assignment was as the Command Sergeant Major for 311th Signal Command (Theater), Fort Shafter, Hawaii (July 2014-June 2016). Other Command Sergeant Major assignments include: 1st Signal Brigade, Seoul, Korea (June 2012-June 2014); Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 8th Army, Seoul (December 2011-April 2012); 54th Signal Battalion, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait (August 2009-November 2011), and; 59th Signal Battalion, Fort Richardson, Alaska (June 2006-July 2009).
Command Sergeant Major Curry has held numerous leadership positions including Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Telecommunications Center (TCC) Shift Supervisor, TCC NCOIC, Communications Security Custodian, Training NCO, Help Desk NCOIC, Computer Facility NCOIC, Division NCOIC, Directorate NCOIC, Presidential Communications Center Team Leader and Vice Presidential Communications Officer. His assignments include the Automated Multi-Media Exchange, 228th Signal Company, Frankfurt, Germany; Camp Howze TCC, 552nd Signal Company, Munson, Korea; White House Communications Agency, Washington, D.C.; and Luke Air Force Base, Arizona; Yongsan Support Facility, 169th Signal Company, Seoul; U.S. Army Recruiting Command Headquarters, Fort Knox, Kentucky; Regional Signal Group-Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Casteau, Belgium; U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; and the 321st Theater Materiel Management Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His previous deployments include Pristina, Kosovo and Camp Arifjan.
Command Sergeant Major Curry’s military education includes: Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic NCO Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Advanced NCO Course (Commandant’s List), Battle Staff, and U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class #54. Command Sergeant Major Curry has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland and an Executive Masters of Business Administration Degree concentrating in Information and Communications Technology (MBAICT) from Alaska Pacific University. He has earned the industry certifications of Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Security+, A+, Network+, Certified Novell Administrator (CNA-4.11), and Certified Novell Engineer (CNE-4.11).
His awards include the Legion of Merit (2), Presidential Service Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (4), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (3), GWOT Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (5), Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Driver’s Badge, German Physical Fitness Efficiency Badge (Gold), and other ribbons and decorations. He has also received the Signal Regiment Silver Order of Mercury and the Army Cyber Command Bronze Order of Saint Isidore.
Command Sergeant Major Curry is married with three children.
